Gary Crockett
After several years of studying under jazz drummer, Walter Salb, his own
unique straight-ahead style evolved to encompass elements of rock, blues, jazz and
funk. At age 17, Gary began touring the South with the band Red Hot Chicken before
settling in Louisiana in the mid 70's. Signing with RCS Records, he recorded and toured
extensively with former Jackson Five Victory Tour guitarist, Gregg Wright. As a drummer,
vocalist, and songwriter, he was a founding member of the Warner Bros. recording group
Private Life. From there, he backed former Rick Derringer, Rod Stewart and current
Steppenwolf lead guitarist Danny Johnson in Danny Johnson and the Bandits.
Gary has opened shows for legendary artists such as Bob Marley and the
Wailers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Neville Brothers, Freddie King, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee
Lewis, Dr. John, Levon Helm, Jerry Jeff Walker, Allman Brothers, lead guitarist Dickie Betts and
more.
Since his return to the Washington, D.C. area, Gary has avoided crack and
automatic weapons while performing with Tommy Lepson and The Lazy Boys, Long
Gone recording artist, Cathy Ponton King, Black Top Records recording artist
Bobby Parker, Billy Hancock and The Sidekicks, Son-O-Bop, boogieman, Daryl Davis and
guitarists, Linwood Taylor and Rich Chorne'.
He joined Marge Calhoun and Ron Holloway in 1999 performing at such
acclaimed venues as the Birchmere, the 9:30 Club and the Barnes at Wolftrap.
They have shared the stage with acts such as Tiny Town, Joe Ely, Shania Twain, and
10,000 Maniacs.
Gary has since produced Marge Calhoun's latest recording, "Twisted Tales
of Passion and Pain." As well as playing drums and singing harmony on a number
of tracks, he's not a bad photographer either! He shot the front and back cover to Marge
Calhoun's CD, Twisted Tales. Gary Crockett has added to the unique blend of Marge Calhoun and Ron
Holloway's live performances with his signature sound. You can catch him at
any given time performing with D.C. area bands or in the studio recording sessions with
a host of regional and international artists.
